After being defeated on Thursday night, San Francisco came right back against tough opposing pitcher Jake Peavy, and beat him 5-2. The offense gradually scored some runs against the ace as they were led to victory by several rookie bats.
Jonathan Sanchez put up a quality start that helped improve his chances at defeating the Padres. He went six innings, allowing the only Padres runs in the fifth inning, a two-run game tying homerun by Adrian Gonzalez. Other than that, he was good, scattering six hits and two walks while striking out six batters. Alex Hinshaw started the seventh inning, got two outs and then required help from Sergio Romo to get to the eighth. Romo bailed him out of trouble and also pitched a scoreless eighth inning. Brian Wilson earned his thirty-eighth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning, but walked and allowed a single.
Pablo Sandoval has kept up his impressive hitting, looking more like a veteran than a rookie. A solo homer in the fourth inning gave San Francisco the lead, he also scored a second run after reaching base on a single later in the game. Sandoval was not the only rookie striking big against Peavy, Travis Ishikawa busted out a solo homer in the sixth inning to help the Giants reclaim a 3-2 led. Ishikawa was three-for-five on the day with two singles, and another run scored. Randy Winn also collected three hits, two singles and a double with an RBI.
Tim Lincecum will go up against the Padres Chris Young tonight at 7:05 p.m. Lincecum has been incredibly dominant against San Diego this year, going 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA in five starts. Coming off a great start against Arizona, I would bet my life on the Giants and Lincecum tonight.
