For the second time in less than a day, the Giants pulled off another stunning walk-off win to give them the series. After getting out to a 3-1 lead and trading runs several times with the Dodgers, San Francisco was forced to comeback yet again, but this time in the bottom of the ninth to win 5-4.
Matt Cain allowed four runs on six timely hits and four walks while striking out four in seven innings of work. Cain gave up two doubles and triples as the Dodgers struck against him for all their runs, one in the third inning, one in the fifth, and two more in the seventh. Keiichi Yabu pitched a perfect eighth inning, as did Jack Taschner in the ninth with two strikeouts to keep the Giants in the game. Taschner was credited with the win when the Giants completed the comeback in their half of the inning.
The Giants racked up fourteen hits in the game and also took advantage of several defensive mistakes in the ninth inning to earn the win. Aaron Rowand was four-for-five and scored the game-winning run, but Randy Winn and Eugenio Velez stole the show. Winn was three-for-four with a double and two singles, drove in three runs and scored the tying run in the ninth inning. Velez entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning and stayed in the game to hit the game-winning RBI single that knocked in Rowand winning the game.
After a successful homestand, the Giants go on the road tomorrow, beginning a series at Houston. Jonathan Sanchez has lost his last four decisions, but will take the mound at 5:05 p.m. against Brandon Backe who is coming off his worst start of the season.
