Giants Split With Rockies, Remain in Cellar

by @ 6:12 am. Filed under 2007 Giants

The Giants can’t manage to get out of the cellar but at least they’re finally winning.  They split a two game series with the Rockies this week.  On Monday, Barry Zito finally earned his paycheck with a really nice outing.  He gave up just three hits and three walks with four strikeouts in six shutout innings, and it’s his first win in a Giant’s uniform.  Ray Durham and Benjie Molina both homered in the 8-0 win and Omar Vizquel went four for five with two runs and two RBIs.

Last night’s game was a major drag.  Matt Cain was awesome.  He threw seven innings and gave up just two hits with seven strikeouts, unfortunately he threw too many pitches early and came out to see the pen blow his win.  Three different relievers all got tagged for runs in a five run Rockies eighth inning.  Barry Bonds walked three times and Rich Aurilia had two hits and an RBI in the 5-3 loss.

Next up is two at home against the Cardinals.  It’s a shame because if looks like a lot of the good teams are in the NL West and I don’t see the Giants keeping up.  Already we’re five games down and if that number goes up much more, the Giants season is going to be over very early.
