Documenting the Rich History of One of the Senior Circuits Most Storied Franchises

Wow, the Giants front office actually made a good move. They signed Matt Cain to a four year, $9 million deal that will cover the future star pitcher through all of his arbitration years once you include the option the team has in 2011. At $2.25 million a year for four years, this is going to be a huge bargain in my opinion. Cain’s a stud and my guess is sometime during this contract, he’ll supplant Barry Zito as the team’s ace.
PECOTA is projecting Cain to have a nice season in 2007. His weighted mean average has him at a 1.34 WHIP with a 4.27 ERA although I think he could hit his 75th percentile, which puts him at a 1.26 WHIP and a 3.64 ERA with 170 strikeouts in 176 2/3 innings. Regardless, with Cain and Zito locked up for a while, the Giants have a nice one-two punch until some of their younger players start moving up, like Lincecum.
