Giants Fall In Extras

by @ 7:33 am. Filed under 2008 Giants

With Tim Lincecum starting for the Giants, a win would be near guaranteed, but the worst inning of his career last night ultimately led to a 6-5 loss in extra innings to Colorado. The Giants were able to rally back from being down five runs, but fell in the twelfth inning.
Lincecum lasted just five innings in last night’s tough loss, much due to a five-run fourth inning the Rockies offense put together off him. Colorado batted around in the inning, and by the time Lincecum was out of the game he had given up those five runs on five hits and two walks, with six strikeouts. Sergio Romo pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and walks as the Giants fought back to tie up the game by the sixth inning. Tyler Walker threw a hitless ninth inning to put them game into extra innings. Billy Sadler and Keiichi Yabu got the Giants threw the tenth and eleventh innings, but Yabu let what would be the winning run on base in the twelfth. With just one out in the final inning, Brian Wilson relieved Yabu, but gave up the game winning hit that scored Omar Quintanilla from second base.
San Francisco’s offense did not quit after falling back five runs, and immediately scored two runs in the fifth inning, and then tied up the game in the sixth. Omar Vizquel had a big day, going three-for-five with three runs batted in on two singles and a double. Emmanuel Burriss drove in the other two Giants runs with a single, he also scored one run himself. Pablo Sandoval was hitless in the game, but walked three times as he came around to score twice. Like Vizquel, Randy Winn had a three-hit day, all three hits were singles, but he did not score or drive in any runs.
The Giants will look to Barry Zito this afternoon at 12:05 p.m. to get them off this latest five-game skid. Aaron Cook is having a good season for the Rockies, going 16-8 with a 3.88 ERA, and will get the start for Colorado.
