The Giants completed a four-game sweep of the Nationals, winning the final game 3-2. It looked as if San Francisco would run away with a big lead after scoring their first run quickly in the first inning, but the Nationals kept it a close game.
Matt Cain was lucky to allow just one run over the six and a third innings he pitched. He was able to get away with giving up eight hits and a walk, and got the help of two double plays and six strikeouts to limit the damage. Keiichi Yabu finished off the seventh inning, retiring both batters he was brought in to face. Tyler Walker started the eighth inning, but walked two hitters and allowed a hit that scored one of them, bringing the Rockies within one run of tying the game at three. Alex Hinshaw had to be summoned to try to get the Giants out of the inning, but walked another batter. Brian Wilson then came into the game to try for the four-out save, he was successful, sitting down all four hitters he faced.
The two-three-four hitters saved the day for the Giants, producing all the offense. Overall, the Giants were out-hit 9-5 and were lucky to come out on top. Ray Durham was one-for-four with a double and also reached base on a walk, he scored two of the Giants three runs. Randy Winn was the real hero though, going two-for-four with a single and a double that drove in two runs. He was also responsible for scoring the third Giants run in the two-run fifth inning. Catcher Bengie Molina also had a single and a double that drove in a run.
Tonight the Giants will start a three-game series at Colorado before returning home for the weekend. Pat Misch will continue to look for that elusive first career victory, but with the Giants on a winning streak, he might just get it tonight. The Rockies will send Aaron Cook to the mound at 6:05 p.m.
