Baseball America released their top ten Giants prospects list. Of course the Giants have a ton of young talent but a lot of the top talent has found it’s way to the big league club. At the top of the list is first baseman Brandon Belt. This was one of those steals because the Giants got him in the fifth round but he had a heck of a season in his pro debut in 2010. He started in High A and mashed, moved on to Double A and mashed some more and then he ran into some struggles at Triple-A which is probably where he’ll start in 2011. Still, we could see Belt in a big league uniform some time this year.
Number two is Zack Wheeler, the Giants first round pick in 2009. The only thing I didn’t like about how they handled Wheeler was how they moved him from the pen to the rotation. I hope they pick a spot for him and go with it but still, he had a nice movie. He struck out 70 in 59 innings but he walked so he has to work on his control. He won’t turn 21 until May and he’ll probably spend most of the season with the High-A affiliate.
Number three is the Giants first round pick in 2010, outfielder Gary Brown. He struggled in both stops at the Giants short season affiliates but he’s being pegged as the Giants center fielder of the future. The hope is that he’s in there sooner rather then later because that’s a spot that the Giants need filled. Francisco Peguero (nice season at High A, outfielder), and Ehire Adrianza (shortstop, a couple of years away) round out the top five.
Does anyone know what the attendance outlook is for the Giants? I’m curious as to how many more season tickets they’ll sell coming off of the World Series and I’m wondering how early I should buy my Giants tickets. I only plan on going to a few games but I want to make sure I get the ones I picked out.
