The San Francisco Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 on Tuesday.
The offense reached base early and often, notching a 12 in the hit column. Aubrey Huff and Matt Downs each went deep. Edgar Renteria and Pablo Sandoval each knocked in two RBI.
Todd Wellemeyer had his best start as a Giant, going seven innings, giving up just three hits. With the win, this is Wellemeyer’s first with his new club. This is great news for the Giants, if Wellemeyer can start winning on a regular basis, the Giants starting five may be the best in baseball.
Nate Schierholtz helped out the pitching staff Tuesday night with his defense. Schierholtz had two outfield assist in right field, taking away doubles from Phillies stars Ryan Howard and Chase Utley. Look for Schierholtz to see some more playing time.
The Freak will take the mound today, looking for his fifth win in as many tries. Lincecum will duel with Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels at noon. Look for Lincecum to continue his dominance and the Giants to sweep the high powered Phillies.
Go Giants.
The San Francisco Giants picked a good day to score some runs Monday, beating Phillies ace Roy Halladay. The Giants beat the Phillies 5-1.
Jonathon Sanchez picked up his second win of the season, going five innings, striking out six.
The Giants offense got rolling early, scoring two in the first and another in the second inning Monday. In the game Mark De Rosa and Eli Whiteside had two RBI apiece, Aubrey Huff added the other.
This has to be a boost to the Giants offense, beating one of baseball’s best. Let’s hope they can continue today against Phillies pitcher, Jamie Moyer. Todd Wellemeyer will take the hill for the Giants.
Go Giants.
The San Francisco Giants were shut-out Sunday afternoon. Despite getting nine hits, they failed to score a run. The Giants lost to the St. Louis Cardinals,2-0.
The San Francisco Giants open a series with the Philadelphia Phillies today. The Giants must start scoring runs to be a contender this year. Their record is 10-8 at the moment.
Hello Giants fans, first of all I would like to apologize to my devoted readers, the blog has suffered for a week or so do to my preparation for final exams.
Good news for the Giants, the top two pitchers in the rotation are 7-0 to start the season. Tim Lincecum moved to 4-0 Friday night beating the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-1. Barry Zito went eight great innings yesterday, striking out 10,picking up his third win of the season. This was the thirteenth time in Zito’s career he has logged 10+ strikeouts. Zito has gone at least six innings in all four starts this year, allowing only four earned runs to this point in the season. This is superb news for Giants fans, if Zito can continue to return to the form he displayed early in his career, he will be deadly on the mound. What a treat for Giants fans. Combined, Lincecum and Zito have an ERA of 1.16.
Andres Torres broke a scoreless tie in the eighth with a single, driving in Nick Schierholtz. Aubrey Huff later drove in Torres, giving the Giants a 2-0 lead. Closer Brian Wilson took care of the rest, recording his fourth save of the season. The Giants move their record to 10-7, one game behind the San Diego Padres.
Matt Cain will look for his first win of the season today versus former Giant, pitcher Brad Penny. More importantly, the San Francisco Giants will go for the sweep this afternoon. This would be a huge turnaround from their 1-5 road trip. Also, sweeping the Cardinals would be an early season boost, considering the fact that this may be an early season playoff match-up.
Speaking of early season playoff teams, the Philadelphia Phillies will roll into the Bay Area on Monday. Look for the Giants to get the bats going today, they will need great offense against the powerful Phillies. We know the pitching will be there for the Giants, now if we could only score runs.
Go Giants.
The San Francisco Giants lost another one-run game Tuesday night, their third in a row. This time, they lost despite giving up only one hit.
Jonathon Sanchez threw seven stellar innings, striking out 10 and only allowing one hit, three walks, and one run.
The Giants were off to a hot start going 7-2, but since have went 1-4 in their last five games. The offense will have to pick up the slack today as Todd Wellemeyer will take the reigns in the final game of the series with the San Diego Padres. Wellemeyer will face-off against Padres pitcher Jon Garland at 3:35 p.m. This is also the final game of their road trip before heading back to the bay for a weekend series with the high powered St. Louis Cardinals.
The offense has struggled since lead-off man Aaron Rowand was hit in the head with a pitch and was placed on the DL. The Giants are also missing Mark De Rosa in the line-up, he is still day-to-day with a hamstring issue.
Look for Renteria, Sandoval, and Huff to carry the load for the Giants tonight, in a somewhat must win before Thursday’s off day.
The Giants need another solid outing from their starting pitcher, Todd Wellemeyer. What they really need is a strong dose of offense this evening. Look for Bruce Bochy’s club to come out and silence the critics tonight at Petco Park.
Go Giants.
The San Francisco Giants lost a nail-biter Sunday afternoon, falling to the Dodgers, 2-1.
Despite 7.1 innings of shutout ball from Barry Zito, the Giants lost on a two-run pinch hit homer by Manny Ramirez in the eighth inning. Heading into the inning, Juan Uribe gave the Giants a 1-0 lead with his first home run of the season in the seventh. After Zito gave up his only walk of the game, he was pulled for Sergio Romo.
Romo allowed the homer to the next batter, Ramirez. This also allowed the Dodgers to take the three game series. Barry Zito also lost out on his bid to go 3-0.
Look for the Giants to get back to winning tonight at 7:05. Matt Cain will take the hill for the ball club. He will face San Diego’s pitcher Clayton Richard. Cain looks to pick up his first win of the season. The team will need to bounce back to avoid their first two-game losing streak of the season.
Go Giants.
Tim Lincecum beat the Los Angelos Dodgers by himself yesterday.
Lincecum not only went six innings, striking out seven, he didn’t allow a run. Lincecum also had three hits at the plate, and most importantly, three RBI.
Lincecum put the Giants on the board in the second inning with a well placed bunt in between the pitcher and second base.
In the third inning, Lincecum ripped a single to right-center field with the bases loaded, plating two, putting the Giants up 3-0.
With the ball in Tim Lincecum’s control, and the Giants offense sizzling Saturday afternoon, the game seemed to be over after three innings.
The Giants went on to win 9-0 over the rival, Dodgers. Giants hitters were patient at the plate, drawing six walks and knocking 12 hits. The lead-off hitter reached base in the first seven
innings.
Tim Lincecum finished the game having more RBI than earned runs allowed on the season. Lincecum is 3-0 and looks to be in mid-season form.
It’s only three weeks into the 2010 season and the Cy Young race is already heating up between Lincecum and Phillies pitcher, Roy Halladay. Both men are 3-0 this season with similar, dominant numbers. This race may come down to the last day of the season, making it one for the ages.
Look for the Giants offense to display their newly discovered patience at the plate this afternoon against Dodgers pitcher,Clayton Kershaw, a talented young lefty. Barry Zito will take the mound for the Giants, looking for his third win in as many tries. The Giants look to take the series starting at 1:10 p.m.
In a serious note, the Giants CF Aaron Rowand was placed on the 15-day DL with a broken cheekbone, and concussion. He was hit in the head by a pitch in Friday’s game. Eugenio Velez started in his place on Saturday. Velez went three-for-five with a run scored, a RBI, and a walk. Look for a platoon system to be in place while Rowand is out. With Barry Zito on the mound, Andres Torres will play in the outfield. An odd combination, but it seems to work for skipper Bruce Bochy.
Rowand’s injury Friday was followed up by Mark DeRosa leaving Saturday’s game with a hamstring strain. He is listed as day-to-day at the moment. Injuries hurt every team, hopefully the Giants bench players can pick up the slack. Look for young players to get quality experience over the next few weeks.
Go Giants.
The San Francisco Giants lost their first game of the season versus the Los Angelos Dodgers, 10-8 on Friday night.
Starting pitcher Todd Wellemeyer got rocked in the early innings. The Dodgers hit back-to-back home runs in the first. CF Matt Kemp hit a two-run shot, followed by a solo bomb from Andre Ethier. The score was 3-0 after one. Andre Ethier then hit a grand slam in the second, taking the score to 7-0.
This would prove to be enough for Dodgers pitcher, Vincente Padilla. He went seven innings striking out seven Giants.
The Giants displayed some good offense themselves, scoring eight runs. Five of these runs came too late in the ninth, including a Eugenio Velez three run homer. Velez seems to be a good spark off the bench for the ball club in 2010. Look for him to improve over the year.
To be able to compete in the National League this year the Giants must get good pitching from Wellemeyer, the fifth starter. He has thrown 10.1 innings this year, allowing 11 runs. He also has allowed seven walks and four home runs. This is unacceptable, look for Wellemeyer to really pick it up in his next start.
Good thing for the Giants, Tim Lincecum will take the hill today. Lincecum will look to continue his early season success and tame the Dodgers offense. The opposition is batting .176 this season against the two time Cy Young winner. The Giants will face Charlie Haeger, a young knuckleball pitcher. Haeger struck out 12 in his last start, getting a no decision.
If the Giants offense can be patient at the plate this afternoon, they have a great chance to win with Tim Lincecum throwing today.
Look for the Giants to get a key early season road win this afternoon at 1:05. They also would like an early three game lead on last year’s divisional winner, and rival, Los Angelos Dodgers.
Go Giants.
The San Francisco Giants are 7-2 going into the weekend series with the enemy, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Giants look to continue their early 2010 winning ways sending Todd Wellemeyer to the mound. He will duel with Vincente Padilla at 7:10 this evening.
If the Giants can pounce on Padilla early they have a great chance to beat their foe in the first game of the series.
Wellemeyer must stay out of trouble. The Giants defense will have to be sharp. The offense will look to avoid the double play, which has hurt them through the first two weeks of the season.
Go Giants.
The San Francisco Giants lost a heart breaker Tuesday night, losing 6-5 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Matt Cain went six innings allowing five walks, three hits, two walks and three runs.
Going into the eighth inning of Tuesday’s game, the game was tied at three apiece.
Jeremy Affeldt took the mound. With one on and one out, Edgar Renteria committed an error failing to turn a double play. Error’s will kill you in all sports, and brought the Giants to defeat on this night. Pirates first basemen Garrett Jones was at the plate next and drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth. The Pirates scored twice more in the ninth and the score was 6-3 going into the last stanza.
Nate Schierholtz led off the ninth of with pinch hit double. Eugenio Valez unloaded a two-run bomb into the right field stands. With the score 6-5 and no outs, the Giants failed to score the game tying run, losing their second game of the season.
The team had a chance to win, but once again an error hindered their ability. They will look to take the three game series with the Pirates today at 3:45 this afternoon.
Jonathon Sanchez takes the ball for the Giants this afternoon. He will go up against Pirates pitcher Charlie Morton. Both men will look to get their first win of the year.
Look for the Giants to capitalize on crucial opportunities today, as the team seeks their seventh victory heading into the off day, Thursday.
Go Giants and Happy Birthday Timmy G.
